Knowledge continues to spread

Samantha Riley and friends at the Quality Observatory at NHS South East Coast continue to publish the interesting and useful newsletter, Knowledge Matters. You can see the current and back issues here. The current issue has a very nice article about the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), a voluntary annual reward and incentive programme for all GP surgeries in the UK.

As we have seen by this newsletter, the ideas that come from within the health care world to improve quality and safety can be interesting, engaging, and compelling. Also, the internet and social media make it possible to disseminate information in a low cost and creative manner.

What a simple, great and practical newsletter (typical of the Brits, my mother was one!). To one no longer involved in granular detail, the quality outcomes measurement report from Norway was interesting. Hospitals there have been reporting quality and performance data for several years? The national focus is now on measurable improvement, with national targets set for specific goals? And in the UK there is a national bowel cancer audit?

We here can only dream......and gnash our teeth in the meantime.
